Engineers in the United States and around the world are building a supercomputer that is twice the size of the fastest supercomputer built in the past five years, and it is a product of a major breakthrough in artificial intelligence.
The IBM Watson supercomputer will run the world’s largest open-source software program known as Big Blue, and will be able to run applications and analyze large amounts of data with far better accuracy than ever before.
This is a big step forward for the field of artificial intelligence, which is expected to be more than 100 times as powerful as computers built decades ago.
IBM Watson will be capable of processing as much as a billion trillion words of data a second.
And IBM says it has a blueprint for building the next generation of AI supercomputers.
The computer was built in a facility in Westwood, California, by a team of 10 researchers led by IBM and its Watson supercomputing group.
The company announced the work Monday, saying the project will help develop the next generations of artificial-intelligence software.
It will be built using existing IBM machines and IBM’s Watson software.
IBM is also making a big bet on AI, which has long been seen as a hotbed for new technologies and ideas.
The Watson project, which will take a decade or more to complete, will help bring the technology to the forefront of computing, says Jim Buechner, chief technology officer at IBM.
“IBM Watson is an ambitious new project and we are delighted that it has come to fruition,” Bueichner said.
The project will use the IBM Watson software to run the program’s large database of billions of files and will also use Big Blue’s data warehouse to process data.
“I’m excited about this collaboration with IBM Watson,” said Paul Scherrer, a software engineer and IBM research scientist.
“It is an exciting new era in AI.
It’s really the next step in the development of AI technology.
I think it will be very exciting to see this supercomputer go live and start processing huge amounts of big data.”
Watson was developed in a lab and will take 10 years to complete Watson’s own data warehouse, Bue and other IBM scientists said.
Watson’s ability to process massive amounts of information has been a focus of IBM for years.
It developed its own version of the Turing test to measure how well an AI program can perform.
The new version will also take advantage of the company’s existing Watson software and build new tools to analyze and interpret huge amounts.
“Our research has demonstrated the importance of data for human reasoning and creativity,” Scherrer said.
“We have the ability to create the next-generation machine learning algorithms.”
Watson will also help IBM’s artificial-language software for the Watson system run in real time, so that it can understand speech in real-time and understand people’s emotions, he said.
IBM’s AI researchers are building the supercomputer as part of the new IBM Vision project.
IBM Vision, which was launched in 2015, is focused on understanding how people can see images and videos and use them in their daily lives.
The supercomputer is also used to develop Watson’s language software, which can translate text into the language of a specific target language.
IBM hopes to have Watson’s software ready for prime time in 2020, and is using Big Blue to test it before then.
